1、 Application background
With the promulgation and implementation of air pollution control policies and air pollutant emission standards by the state, provinces and cities, the control of VOC emissions has become increasingly strict. In this situation, waterborne coatings have been widely used in rail transit, container, agricultural machinery and other industries to replace traditional solvent based coatings. In recent years, the engineering machinery industry has also conducted application research on water-based coatings, and some enterprises have begun to use water-based coatings on a large scale. In addition, waterborne coating manufacturers have also begun to pay attention to the construction machinery industry. They have carried out a lot of product research and development for waterborne coatings used in construction machinery, and many coating enterprises have developed waterborne coatings specifically for construction machinery.
2、 Present Situation of Waterborne Coatings in Construction Machinery
The research and application of waterborne coatings in construction machinery industry is relatively late and slow compared with rail transit, container and other industries. Before 2007, there were few discussions and reports on the research and application of waterborne coatings in the construction machinery industry. Due to the technological limitations and cost factors of waterborne coatings, waterborne coatings have not been rapidly applied in the construction machinery industry. Most enterprises stay in the wait-and-see, discussion and process test stages, and only a few enterprises have carried out batch application.
With the strengthening of air pollution control measures, the application of water-based coatings in construction machinery has made substantial progress, and some enterprises have begun to carry out small batch trials. Since 2007, there have been more and more discussions and reports on the research and application of waterborne coatings in the construction machinery industry. By 2018, most construction machinery enterprises began to pay attention to water-based coatings, joined the application research team of water-based coatings, and a few enterprises began to apply in large quantities.
3、 Performance of water-based paint
In the past, the industry standards had some basic requirements for the coating quality of construction machinery, but the requirements for the gloss, weather resistance, water resistance and salt spray resistance of the paint film were not high.
However, with the development of construction machinery, the appearance quality of construction machinery products has far exceeded the previous standards, and various performance indicators have been greatly improved. The water resistance, salt fog resistance and weather resistance of the paint film are much higher than the requirements of the original industry standards.
Although waterborne coatings have been widely used in other industries, different industries have different characteristics. Engineering machinery products are quite different from other machinery products in terms of structure, function, use, etc., so the requirements for coating performance are also different. However, the improvement of waterborne coatings enterprises and the application of construction machinery show that waterborne coatings can fully meet the coating quality requirements of construction machinery products. Except for individual performance indicators, all properties of waterborne coatings are not lower than solvent based coatings. Therefore, from the performance point of view, waterborne coatings can be safely used in the construction machinery industry.
